This new adventure, written by Christophe Cassiau-Haurie, is the 14th picture book of “Tikulu’s adventures”. Christophe Cassiau-Haurie had already written Mission to Seychelles in 2009.

Maiden Cup Fever! is, as always, quite the explosion of colours, thanks to Henry Koombes’ tremendous brush stroke.

While experiencing the effervescence of the Turf Club, the children also discover the races’ backstage, from the prepping of horses to the jockeys’ one. There are rituals that take place before each race: the tending to the horses by the grooms, the inspection of the horseshoes by the blacksmith, the laps of the track in the paddock or the weighing of the jockeys… We discover here a fascinating world where excitement, suspense and fear overlap.

Horse races in Mauritius

The first edition of the Maiden Cup at the Champ de Mars took place on August 7th 1843. At that time, only eight horses were competing and Creeper I, who belonged to jockey M. Gonard, won the race. Since then, this race is the unmissable event of the year for every hippophile.
